What to Expect
We’re so glad you’re thinking about worshipping with us. We know that walking into an unfamiliar place and meeting unfamiliar people can be a little intimidating. It might be helpful for you to know what you can expect to experience on a Sunday morning at Flagstone.
-
Expect to meet God. At Flagstone, public worship is not about ritual or tradition or ceremony – it is about connection. It is a time when we gather in the presence of God to be encouraged, healed, convicted, equipped, and loved. It is a time when we get to confess and praise and express love to our Lord.
-
Expect to meet other people. We don’t want to just connect with God. We also want to connect with one another. You won’t be mobbed when you show up for worship. But you will run into people who ask your name and warmly welcome you to Flagstone.
-
Expect the “feel” of Sunday morning to be casual…intimate…honest. Come as you are. You don’t have to dress up or pull it all together or paste on a smile. You are welcome whatever your life circumstances or spiritual condition. Flagstone is a place for strugglers.
-
Expect variety. Although our worship leaders plan a time of exciting and contemporary worship, we allow the Holy Spirit to be in charge. We come from a wide range of church backgrounds, and that is reflected in our public worship. The “order of worship” may change from week to week, but our goal each week is to design a service that gives you plenty of opportunity to connect with God personally.
-
Expect a theme. Every Sunday pursues a thought, idea, scripture, or purpose. You will see it woven through songs, prayers, the sermon, and comments during communion. Listen for it.
-
Expect to take communion (the Lord’s Supper, the Eucharist) and remember the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord – the central enactment of the central truths of our faith.
-
Expect to hear from God’s Word. We are a people of the Book. We believe that, in God’s Word, we find the source of life (Jesus Christ) and discover the kind of life God calls us to live.
Have you just discovered a hunger for God? We welcome you as you begin your journey. Are you searching for fresh energy, fresh faith? Come walk with us. Are you wounded, disappointed, or disillusioned? We know what that’s like. You will find something genuine, something healing at Flagstone.
Flagstone is not a perfect place, and it is not full of perfect people. But we believe that you will find that we are authentic. Our faith, our fellowship, our walk before the Lord is honest. We are not afraid to look for truth. We want to make a difference in the world. And, in that cause, we are willing to take some risks and to endure some failure.
Flagstone is not for everyone. But this church does have something to offer everyone who wants to become part of our family. We offer you our vision and ministries, our homes and friendship, our energies and time. That’s what you can come to expect at Flagstone.
